Delete your account

Three ways to remove your Scout data. All of them work, one of them does not need an account, and this page says what survives before it says how.

Last updated Aug 26, 2026

  1. By DM to @scout.wiki

Send the words “delete my data” in the thread. Works even if you never made an account on the website — messaging from the handle is how Scout knows it is you.

  2. By email

Email privacy@scout.wiki from the address on your account, or tell us the Instagram handle you messaged from. Answered within 30 days, usually far sooner.

What is deleted

  • Your email address, display name and the link to your Instagram handle.
  • Every check you have sent Scout, along with the cards it produced for you.
  • Your saved list, your feedback answers and your stats.
  • Your session, so Scout stops answering DMs from your account.

What stays, and why

Community reviews you wrote remain, with your name removed. They are detached from your account and can no longer be traced back to you.

This is a deliberate exception and worth being straight about. Those ratings are part of a shared average that other people have already read and acted on. Pulling one person’s ratings out would quietly move a number strangers used to make a decision, which is the exact behaviour Scout exists to expose in sellers. If you want a specific review taken down instead, ask and it will be removed.

Anonymised, aggregate records — how often a check succeeded, how often a product could not be identified — are also kept. They contain nothing that identifies you and are what tell us where Scout is wrong.

Messages in your Instagram thread live on Meta’s servers as well as Scout’s. Deleting your Scout data does not clear the thread on Instagram; you can delete that conversation from within the app.

How long it takes

Closing your account signs you out and stops Scout answering immediately. Everything personal is then held for 30 days and permanently purged after that. Scout shows you the exact purge date at the moment you confirm.

Backups roll off on their own schedule, so a copy may persist in an encrypted backup for a short period after the purge date. It is not restored to the live service.

Changing your mind

During the 30 days, signing in again with a fresh link brings everything back exactly as it was. After that there is nothing left to restore, and Scout cannot recover it for you.

If you never made an account

You can message Scout on Instagram without signing up for anything, and Scout will still be holding the ads you sent. Route 02 above covers you: send “delete my data” in the thread, or email privacy@scout.wiki with the handle you messaged from.

Other requests

A copy of your data, a correction, or a single review taken down are all handled through the same channels. The privacy page sets out the full list of rights and what Scout holds in the first place.
